Info for Round Trip (feat. John Ellis, Peter Dahlgren, Danny Grissett & Otis Brown III)

Originally the meaning of ‘round trip’ was to return to the starting point via a different road. Anne Mette explains, “when I wrote the tune 'Round Trip’, it was about a deep and heartfelt wish I had to return to my two sons, who I had left in another country for a few days. As this album and this music came about, ‘round trip’ then became a key idea for the album. In the sense of coming home, it describes the feeling I have every time I play with this group. It refers to the many (round) trips we have taken together over the years, but also how much we have grown as a band, musicians and persons, and how we, no matter where each one of us is placed in the world, get together to make music and share our experiences. Even on a personal level I see the many round trips in our journey through life and music.” Round Trip is simply jazz on a high level, a feeling of unity and togetherness that can be otherwise hard to find.

Anne Mette Iversen Quartet +1 is an extension of Anne Mette’s longest running group: Anne Mette Iversen Quartet. Established in New York City in 2002, the musical relationship and the improvisational rapport of its musicians have developed and grown to the exceptional, along with the music and Ms. Iversen’s compositions. This group voices a musical ideal and aesthetic that Anne Mette sought after for many years; and having found it; the ‘Round Trip’ album feels like going full circle, like coming home, and it expresses on several levels what is innate in the word ‘round trip’, and how we all strive to satisfy our longing to come, to be, to find, to have a home.

Anne Mette Iversen’s Quartet +1 brings you modern jazz at its best: Exceptional solos, intuitive interactions, a great rhythmic present and performances that transcends the stage and sends the audience home with a fulfilled and satisfied musical experience. The music swings and has the drive, the energy and the excitement that the New York jazz scene is known for, and it possesses melodies and harmonic shapes that intrigue and engage and draws in, even an in-experienced listener to the music.

About the band members: Each musician has many years of international experience and appearances worldwide as sideman and leader, and with an abundance of top level jazz musicians like Joe Lovano, Louis Hayes, Tom Harrell, John Patitucci, Norrbotten Big Band, Darcy James Argue, Tim Hagans, Teri Lyne Carrington, to name a few. In Anne Mette Iversen Quartet +1 they are all challenged by the compositions and by each other; to bring forth the best that they have, and although Ms. Iversen is bandleader and composer; the group operates with a collective spirit and an attitude that allows room for everyone to ‘tip in’. ‘It is truly a pleasure to lead this band and it really is a feeling of coming home, every time we play together!’ - Ms. Iversen says.
